Gentle Snark
It really doesn't seem that long ago that Gavin Rossdale of Bush -- the defunct British alternative rock band that scored vaguely Nirvana-ish hits with "Glycerine," "Comedown" and "Machinehead" -- was performing to giant halls with screaming fans and selling millions of records. And yet you can see Rossdale perfoming for free this week in Seattle.

Little Kids, Big City
With 397 parks in Seattle and over 135 acres of playgrounds, our city isn't hurting for green space. Choosing a "favorite" is challenging. On cool days, I like Powell-Barnett Park's topsy-turvy, inventive playthings in Leschi. But on scorchers like today, I prefer Meridian Playground (Wallingford): I sit in the shade, and my kids transform into swamp creatures at the park's sand-and-water pit.

Belltown's Black Bottle was Seattle's first "gastro-tavern," followed last October by Quinn's on Capitol Hill. And now there's Spur, a partnership between Tilth's former chef de cuisine, Dana Tough, and longtime friend Brian McCracken, who previously ran a catering company called Flyte. Spur, however, should not be considered a follower. In the Western spirit its name evokes, the Belltown newcomer is indeed blazing its own trails. Tough and McCracken are pulling out the stops with New American cuisine and making the liquor a gastronomical experience of its own.

Daily Find
Bad things may come in threes, but I have often found that good things come in twos. Such is the case in Georgetown, with the opening in the last year of two sets of adjacent interior design stores in the south Seattle neighborhood.
