Gentle Snark
I know this is late notice, but if your weekend is open and you're just itching to spend the night with a few thousand hippies like yourself, the Summer Meltdown Music and Camping Festival beckons. From August 8th through 10th, the Whitehorse Mountain Amphitheater in Darrington -- 65 miles northeast of town -- will play host to nearly 30 regional and national acts, cranking out everything from hip-hop to bluegrass.

Make no mistake: This is an art show, albeit an art show with mobile canvases. This weekend at Seattle Center's Fisher Pavilion -- August 8, 9 and 10 -- more than a hundred tattoo artists from all over the world will show off the best pieces of skin art from their respective portfolios. More importantly, they'll be creating new work. You could become a permanant part of this annual gallery show.

Little Kids, Big City
If the word "homeschooling" drudges up images of denim jumpers and rural living, then you haven't met Rom Impas and Stacy Lewis. Rom and Stacy homeschool their two sons, Orlando, 5, and Mica, 21 months, right here in Seattle's Leschi neighborhood. Rom, 45, is an artist and designer working in video games, and Stacy, 38, is a writer (see her blog here).

If I didn't have a birthday party to attend this Saturday, I'd be heading to Whidbey Island to join the folks with FETCH! (Free Exercise Time for Canines and their Humans!) for a day of wine tasting and music at the Wine Tasting Walkabout Fundraiser.

Handmade, one-of-a-kind leather handbags for $150? Yes Virginia, they do exist. On a recent trip to Ballard, I found them at Velouria. They're called Revamped, and while you won't mistake them for bags by Balenciaga, you also won't go broke buying one.

What We Crave
Our non-Seattleite friends love to regale us with tall tales of the best barbecue they've ever had -- always, of course, somewhere far from here. Seattle isn't exactly known for its barbecue joints, but we have some tales of our own thanks to Roy's BBQ, a tiny cafe tucked away in Columbia City.
