Gay and lesbian bars and clubs
Seattle has a vibrant gay and lesbian community, much of which is centered in the Capitol Hill area. While it's not the Castro, it's not unusual to see lots of same-sex PDA there. The area also has several fun and safe bars, whether you want to relax with friends, dance with your partner or try to hook up.
C.C. Attle's
(Capitol Hill)
It's been called a "wrinkle room" (based on the age demographic of the clientele). It does serve decent grub, so play your cards right and you can end your Saturday night with a snack and a sugar daddy.
Century Ballroom
(Capitol Hill)
The elegant dancehall is the perfect place to cut a few swing or salsa steps or if you don't know how, to get close to someone and learn.
The Cuff Complex
(Capitol Hill)
This joint pretends to be a leather S&M bar, but it's really a rather tame place for guppies who'd like to fancy themselves "rough trade." Women are welcome, and the large deck is awesome.
Neighbours
(Capitol Hill)
It's a big, old school gay bar where the music's an infectious throw-back to the '80s, the drinks are reasonable, the overall vibe very affable.
Purr Cocktail Lounge
(Capitol Hill)
On weekend nights, Purr rivals the old standard Manray for dude-on-dude cruising.
R Place
(Capitol Hill)
R Place has three levels with an outdoor deck up top. It's an occasionally cool alternative to the meat markets, thanks to trivia nights: "Queer Factor" on Wednesdays and "ASS (Amateur Strip Show)" on Thursdays.
Re-bar
(Downtown)
Unpretentious and queer-friendly, Re-bar is the place to let it all hang out. Dance to deep house, punk and new wave tracks in any damn way you please.
Wildrose
(Capitol Hill)
The only women's bar in Seattle, the scene at the Rose varies from night to night. The most popular night is Wednesday, when it has karaoke, and of course the weekends. It's got a very casual atmosphere, a decent menu as well as a full bar.
Women can meet other women, dance and drink in a hassle-free atmosphere every third Saturday of each month at the Premier. (This event was formerly held at the Catwalk). |
