Now nearly 2, Gub is getting to the age that art classes are starting to sound fun to me, but I am just starting to investigating the many programs in the city. I think we will soon be heading over to The Little Artist parent and tot studio in West Seattle, which is housed inside of (but a separate business from) Curious Kidstuff. I like the option of drop-in sessions for toddlers that The Little Artist Offers; Gub isn't always reliably game for outtings, so the individual fee of $12 for a class sounds like a great way to check out her interest. If we really like it, a ten-class punch card is available for $110. (I'll let you all know how it goes!) The classes for parents and tots ages 1-3 are offered every Monday and Wednesday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m; kids aged 4 and up can come for the Open Studio from 11-noon on Mondays and Wednesdays, and their parents can stay or run a few errands for the hour.
I am also entranced by the creative offerings up at Moonpaper Tent, just the name of which makes me excited to see what they are doing. Located up in the Roosevelt area, the emphasis here is more on imaginative play and theatricality than craft projects, though it appears that there is still plenty of "making" going on here. Two-year-olds can start their classes here with the dress-up hour, while those who are 3.5 can start with a ballet class or one called "Creative Drama Caravan." Moonpaper Tent has classes for kids up to fifth grade.
I would love to hear about your local favorite places for kids' art in the city--or dance or music, for that matter!
