H&M has come to western Washington. The Swedish clothing retailer opened a store at Westfield Southcenter last weekend, and we're giving away three $50 gift cards that you can use there. Just send a photo of your favorite find from any H&M store to seattleshopping@nwsource.com, and you'll be entered in our Aug. 8 drawing. Good luck!

They believe in maximum effect: Hip-hop/jazz outfit The Herbaliser performs a DJ set at Nectar.

Brendan Fraser tugs at the bandages one more time in "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor."

Singer-songwriter Rocky Votolato comes home to Seattle before heading off on a European tour.

Cartoonist and former Low bassist Zak Sally signs a new issue of "Sammy The Mouse" at Fantagraphics Books.

Beyond the weekend
The Secret Chiefs 3 jump so many genre lines in the course of one freaking song that I'm tempted to compare them to one of John Zorn's chaotic projects. (It's not a great stretch: SC3's Trey Spruance was formerly in Mr. Bungle, a band heavily influenced by Zorn.) Are they a surf band? Shoegaze? Techno? Mariachi? Funk? Depends on where you drop the needle on the record. Neumos welcomes the schizophrenic ensemble on Monday, Aug. 4.

Thursday, Aug. 7, The Can-Can Cabaret's dance troupe, the Castaways, meets the peerless Circus Contraption troupe at the Triple Door for "The Can-Can Carnival," a night of "amazing acrobatizm (sic) and ah-inspiring feats of entertainment." I think that means "people hangin' from the ceiling and takin' their clothes off," but I'd hate to guess and be wrong. In any case, you can't go wrong with this much talent in the same room together.
