Forums

Welcome to the Beacon Hill forum

Hey, thanks for stopping by the NWsource forum, where the folks are friendly, the conversation is lively and the drinks are cheap. Oops, sorry, wrong place.

Nonetheless, just like a good local watering hole, this forum is a good spot to meet other Seattleites, share ideas and opinions, recommend or defend your favorites and generally hold forth about whatever's on your mind.

There's no bouncer around here, and we don't require shoes or shirt to enter, but there are a couple of rules: One, don't be mean. Two, don't post ads. We've got Classifieds for that. If you have any questions about what's OK and what isn't, check out our Terms of Service.

We'll drop in occasionally to see how you're doing, and if you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us. We'll do whatever we can to help. Cheers!

Hi,

My teenager and I are relocating to the area and are interested in a condo in the Beacon Hill area to rent. What might I expect of this neighborhood in terms of diversity (all kinds, I am Black and lesbian and a bunch of other stuff...), safety, entertainment, etc.

Thanks!

Beacon Hill is a great up-and-coming neighborhood and probably one of the more diverse areas in Seattle. My household is pretty much your standard whitebread household, but all around us are families of various races (Asian and Hispanic mostly), gay couples, elderly couples, and other combinations that you wouldn't find on every other block in Seattle. In terms of entertainment and activities, there's a great new library, Jefferson Park (which has a grand plan for renovation in the next couple years), a golf course, and various family-owned restaurants. There are a couple schools on Beacon Hill, a couple preschools, the Jefferson Park community center, and a great cultural center called El Centro de la Raza. Also, the light rail stop opens sometime in 2009, I think, so that will be really excellent. Columbia City is close by and there's great stuff in that community as well. All in all, you can't beat Beacon Hill for its great location, affordability, and general mix of great folks.

There is a safety concern on Beacon Hill recently. A friend's house got broken in lately. Usually the middle part of Beacon Hill is a little bit better the the south part. Overall, this is a very diverse neighborhood.
