You don't need a small fortune to have a great night on the town. Draw a single $20 from the ATM and enjoy some of the best cheap fun you've ever had without breaking the law. Author readings Authors read from their latest works in Seattle's bookstores every week, and there's never a cover charge. Caviar tasting The Seattle Caviar Company offers Saturday tastings. Enjoy the delicacy with an 8-ounce pour of champagne for $8.50. Cheap movies The Crest Cinemas in Shoreline shows current releases; admission is $3 any time. Admiral Theater in West Seattle also shows current releases; admission is $4 any time. The Sunset Tavern offers a free "Movie of Mass Destruction" every Monday. Rent a movie: Many independent video stores offer weekly deals. Or, if you prefer, borrow movies from the public library and pay nothing. Big Picture: This "boutique meeting facility" presents current films in an elegant screening room. Admission on Monday nights is only $3. This is a 21-and-over venue. The event is free. Similar gallery walks happen in Kirkland, Ballard, Fremont and Capitol Hill on a monthly basis. It goes without saying that you're welcome to all the jug wine and bulk cheese you can choke down. Museum and attraction deals City pass: This all-in-one ticket gives roughly half-price admission to the Pacific Science Center, Seattle Aquarium, Space Needle, Museum of Flight, Argosy Cruises Seattle Harbor Tour and the Woodland Park Zoo. City Pass is available at any of the aforementioned venues. Hiram M. Chittenden Locks: Watching ships pass through the canal and salmon swim through the "fish ladder" is fascinating stuff, and it's free. Museum of Flight: Adult admission is $11, but drops to $10 if your group is 10 people or larger. Seattle Art Museum: The admission fee is waived on the First Thursday of every month, in conjunction with the downtown gallery walk. Frye Art Museum: Works by famous local and international artists can be found here, and admission is always free. Theater deals Improv comedy groups: Big laughs, small capital outlay. Pay-what-you-can performances Many theater companies offer a "pay-what-you-can" performance during the runs of their shows. Check with the box office of the show you want to see to find out when the pay-what-you-can performances are happening. |
