Belltown's Black Bottle was Seattle's first "gastro-tavern," followed last October by Quinn's on Capitol Hill. And now there's Spur, a partnership between Tilth's former chef de cuisine, Dana Tough, and longtime friend Brian McCracken, who previously ran a catering company called Flyte. Spur, however, should not be considered a follower. In the Western spirit its name evokes, the Belltown newcomer is indeed blazing its own trails. Tough and McCracken are pulling out the stops with New American cuisine and making the liquor a gastronomical experience of its own.

Pet Dish
Treats have saved my bacon on many occasions. They got me through puppy training. They helped coax Scout back into the car after she escaped in a grocery store parking lot. And, they were used to bribe Ziggy into ignoring the cat.
Fortunately for me, in this day and age of "think globally, buy locally" the choices are seemingly endless for Seattle-area treat hounds.

When I go out to eat, I love being treated like a guinea pig. Waiting for my four friends the other night at Branzino,
a new Italian seafood joint in Belltown, I saddled up to the bar, where
a bartender was plucking leaves from the stem of a mysterious
bright-green herb. I asked for a cocktail menu, and instead got one of
my favorite propositions: Let me try something out on you. If you don't
like it, it's on me.

Daily Find
Six chandeliers grandly line the center of Stylus Salon's high ceiling. In fact, each carefully placed accoutrement -- from the appliance cabinets to the chairs -- brings functional style to the edgy new Belltown salon, the brainchild of Seattle stylists Robert Middleton (formerly of heavy-hitting local salons Red and Halo) and Jesus Ezcabar.

Life Behind Bars
The Bad Juju Lounge, late of Capitol Hill -- it was originally located in the spaces now occupied by Purr Cocktail Lounge and Moe Bar -- has re-opened in a new Belltown location. That's right: this is location number three. Once more into the batcave, dear friends!
