If I didn't already have a one-year-old's birthday party to attend this Saturday, I'd be heading to Whidbey Island with my dogs for a pleasant day of wine tasting and music.
It's the fourth annual Wine Tasting Walkabout hosted by FETCH! [1] (a clever acronym for Free Exercise Time for Canines and Their Humans!). The festivities are from 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 9 at Buchanan's Vineyard on Whidbey Island. Canines can frolic in the pasture while their human companions spend the day wine tasting, sampling gourmet cheeses and chocolate, and listening to live blue grass music from The Dog Gones.
Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the gate. For ticketing information visit fetchparks.org [2] or call (360) 321-4049. Humans 21 years and older and leashed dogs are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Tasting tables will showcase wines from Festival '34 Collection, Bohemian Highway, Rosenblum Cellars, Goats do Roam Red and Penfolds.
VIC (Very Important Canine) guests won't be left out of the tasting. Each table will have a bowl of Whidbey Island's finest water for the dogs to enjoy.
Extend the fun and stay on Whidbey for the weekend. Let the pooch play in one of the five off-leash dog parks FETCH! has established or visit the beach and bask in the Whidbey Island summer sun. Visit visitlangley.com [3] for dining, ferry schedules and pet friendly lodging.
Have fun and raise a glass for me, Scout and Ziggy!
If you have a story idea or special event, I'd love to hear about it. Please feel free to email me at brandie@citydogmagazine.com.
