Hiking with kids
Parents and kids will love these hiking trails. They aren't too steep and each has something to keep the little ones' attention. So turn off the television and get on your feet and don't forget the trail snacks.
Ozette Triangle (Northwest of Forks in Olympic National Park)Kids who love tidal pools and the beach will love this loop. Hurricane Hill (Olympic National Park) A better view of the Olympic Mountains is hard to find than from this meadow ramble. Staircase Rapids (Olympic National Park) This follows the North Fork Skokomish River as it pours over numerous cascades. Rainy Lake Nature Trail (West of Winthrop) This easy and level nature trail ends up at one of the North Cascades' prettiest settings. Iron Goat (West of Stevens Pass) One of Washington's best rails-to-trails projects, Iron Goat features lots of historic artifacts. Talapus and Olallie Lakes (East of North Bend) This pair of forested lakes is perfect for first-time camping trips and is less than an hour from Seattle. Cedar Flats (South of Mount St. Helens) Quick and easy, Cedar Flats Trail ventures through Southern Washington's most impressive old-growth forest. Ape Cave (South of Mount St. Helens) These deep, pitch-black tunnels are an eerie and memorable experience. Paradise Nature Trails (Mount Rainier) World-famous and Mount Rainier's most visited setting, Paradise fails to disappoint even the highest expectations. Grove of the Patriarchs (Mount Rainier) This stand of 1,000-year-old old-growth forest sits on a small island in the Ohanapecosh River. Twin Falls (Washington Cascades) Twin Falls Trail makes an excellent, and very easy winter hike. Franklin Falls (Snoqualmie Pass) These easy hikes feature cool, clear water waterfalls, streams and water-scoured rocks that make dandy water slides. |
