Snowboarding highlights: Anthony Lakes Mountain Resort

Anthony Lakes is working harder than ever to attract more and more snowboarders, and the effort is paying off as 35 to 40 percent of their skier visits are one-plankers. With tons of natural snowboard-friendly terrain and a multitude of manmade features, Anthony Lakes is a freeriding paradise. One of the area's signature runs is a natural quarterpipe known as The Gully. Boarders can access The Gully by turning left from the top of the double chair and following the signs to Star Bottle. Technically a 50-foot-long snow-filled creek bed, The Gully sports a 40-foot-high wall of snow.

From the top of the chair take Broadway to access the natural cornice that forms every year. The left side of Broadway, another natural quarterpipe, provides riders with three to four spots to catch air and perform tricks. Many riders choose to glide down Broadway and accelerate before hitting the cornice to cop some air. This natural quarterpipe is 10 to 15 feet high and covers about 300 feet of vertical.

Another local favorite is the huge kicker between Variety and Trouble Creek. Take Variety about halfway down and cut through the trees on the left side of the trail. This takes riders to the top of the kicker where they can catch big air and drop on a perfect landing zone.

For manmade features try Burt's Run, Star Bottle, and Broadway - all of which feature sizable tabletops. Burt's Run even has two kickers and a tabletop at the bottom of the mountain right under the lift that can be accessed by any of the runs.
