I came upon this little waxing spot by word of mouth. Melissa Avila, an aesthetician with 13 years experience at posh salons, opened up her intimate studio two years ago. Located in a funky little duplex in the Roosevelt District, Avila has a full menu of waxing services. The digs are simple but comfortable. The studio is known for the variety of waxing options offered and its friendly neighborhood vibe (her waiting room is stocked with cookies, candies, and snacks).

Avila waxes everything from brows to bikini lines at competitive prices. A brow wax is $18, full leg is $65, and classic bikini is $30. Opt for a Brazilian for $65 or Sphinx for $67 (as smooth as the day you were born, from front to back). The pre-delivery bikini wax ($45) is a great option for expecting mothers who might undergo a C-section. If your pain threshold is low, Avila sells Tropicane, a pre-waxing numbing solution that's applied 45 minutes to an hour before your appointment.

Aside from all the hair removal services, Avila offers eyelash extensions. Individual lashes are applied for $100 (45 minutes to an hour) and fills are $50. If you want to go au natural but would like longer, thicker, eyelashes, ask for the Eyelash Age Intervention by Jan Marini Skin Research. Avila swears the product has made her lashes (as well as clients) longer and thicker. The lash enhancer is $160.

For brides, Avila does airbrush bridal makeup for a perfect photo finish. The $150 fee includes a trial makeup session plus day-of-the-wedding application. Each member of the party is $50 extra. All services are by appointment only.
