I love my mom dearly, but no matter how much time passes, I will never shake the disturbing vision of her mid-1970s yoga getup -- a scoop-necked, poly-something, long-sleeved leotard and matching full-length tights (with feet!) in dreary mocha. Thank goodness she was a short and not a venti; on more ample proportions than hers, the effect would have been downright dowdy.

Today's active women are lucky to have so many stylish choices when it comes to fitness and yoga apparel, from Title Nine and Lucy to Nike and Adidas. One of the best among them is Lululemon Athletica, an innovative, yoga-inspired sportswear company based in Vancouver, B.C.

When Lululemon arrived in Bellevue two years ago, I was delighted but felt a bit snubbed on Seattle's behalf. Now, with the news that Lululemon is coming to University Village, I'm not just delighted, but downward-doggone ecstatic. The new store, which will measure approximately 3,000 square feet, is scheduled to open in mid-November, in the former Radio Shack space at 2625 N.E. University Village St.

Though details are under wraps, Lululemon community relations manager Ashley Schumacher says a grand-opening party and assorted festivities are planned. I'll be there with my mom. And a mocha. But not, thank goodness, my mom in mocha. See you in November.
