A bounty of baubles
Entering Belltown's eclectic Marilyn Berg boutique is like stepping into a giant jewel box

Marilyn Berg's petite shop is like a precious jewel box you open again and again to admire your prized baubles. The eclectic store is filled with Berg's jewelry, vintage frocks from New York, sterling-silver serving pieces, glassware, alabaster lamps, Isabella Fiore handbags, Berg's own tooled-leather handbags and finds from the ocean like chunks of coral and polished seashells.
Berg opened her shop partly to showcase her vast collection of bold and dramatic jewelry. Her pieces typically feature oversized organic elements: spiny necklaces with many-fingered coral pieces come in white and peachy coral; glossy, pea-sized Tahitian pearls come in single and multiple strands; and earrings, bracelets and necklaces are dripping with semiprecious gemstones. She also has a selection of vintage and antique jewelry. Within her bountiful jewelry cases I spied an old-world garnet necklace-and-earring set from Czechoslovakia.
My favorite finds in her shop: a conch shell cut in half with serving spoon for caviar or other goodies ($75); big turquoise drop earrings ($35-$75); a vintage tooled-leather train case ($310); a Victorian silver-plated teapot ($2,500); and a '60s-era brown-and-black graphic-print vintage sheath that just needs a pair of go-go boots ($50).
Go often -- Berg adds new finds frequently to her overflowing jewel box of a store.
