Each season, Hitchcock in Madrona dramatically changes its look. The enigmatic little accessories shop will unveil its latest transformation at a celebration of autumn and new arrivals on Saturday, Nov. 15 from 4 to 7 p.m. Along with champagne and noshes, attendees will receive a cosmetic gift with each purchase.
Owner Erica Sheehan was typically Hitchcockian in her reluctance to share the makeover details, but says, "We looked at the shop from a different point of view with this seasonal interpretation. We're excited to present our jewelry in a new way."
Sheehan and co-owner Dustin Nelson take regular road trips to scour tiny towns in Oregon, Idaho and Nevada for unusual and special vintage objects used for the store's decor. "Our unusual displays have become our signature," says Sheehan. "Dustin and I are inspired by the little dilapidated towns we find traveling through the west. We love to look for the obscure."
The seasonal remodel brings in not only a fresh look, but fresh merchandise. This fall, the look is big-statement, stand-alone jewelry and luxe handbags.
New wares include Deere Cohoun's leather handbags ($450-$750). Unlike the tasseled and buckled "it bags" that scream extravagance, these classic styles simply murmur luxury.
You'll also find Alexis Bittar's sculptural Lucite bangles, bracelets and statement rings ($125-$350) in metallic, neutral and raspberry colors; Subversive's attention-getting "treasure chest" necklaces, masses of tangled chain, found objects and semiprecious gems ($575); Knight & Hammer's finely crafted "bee" jewelry ($495-$1,100), featuring flawless chocolate, lemon and quartz crystal bee "bodies"; and local designer Xenia Mara's earrings and layered vintage chain necklaces ($90-$250) featuring copper, brass and gemstones.
My favorite pieces are druzy quartz rings ($238) designed by Sheehan. I've worn mine almost every day since she reluctantly released them early. The oversized oval stone featuring sparkling quartz crystals has inspired myriad comments about the Milky Way, outer space, the galaxy and infinity.
