When I was kid in the late '70s and early '80s, playtime after school was spent in the woods and ravines of my suburban Seattle neighborhood, making forts and creating imaginary worlds. If the Moonpaper Tent had been around then, I would have been all over it.

Located in Ravenna about a block from Whole Foods Market, the Moonpaper Tent is a magical place that fosters creativity and imagination in children. If your child has a flair for the dramatic and a penchant for make-believe, send them to this supportive and colorful spot. Here are some highlights from the spring schedule.

Spring camps
In case you're looking for a spring break activity for the kids, the Moonpaper Tent is offering two camps ($150 each) that meet Monday through Friday, March 31 to April 4. Encourage your 4- to 7-year-old's wild side at Jungle World from 9 a.m. to noon. Six to 9-year-olds can channel their inner Harry Potter at the Wizards Academy from 1 to 4 p.m. Both camps include take-home craft projects and costume creation.

Spring classes
Spring classes run 10 weeks, from April 7 to June 13, and feature fun and fanciful activities for ages 2 and up. Tuesdays from 10 to 11 a.m., parents of 2- to 5-year-olds can join their little one at Dress Up Hour ($100).

Also on Tuesdays, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., your little dancer (ages 3 1/2 to 5) can don a tutu and learn basic ballet techniques in the Ballerinas class ($110).

Thursdays from 1:30 to 3 p.m., tiny adventurers (ages 3 1/2 to 5) take imaginary journeys to mystical and foreign lands in the Creative Drama Caravan ($150). Each week has a different theme that is explored through music, costumes and craft.

Older thespians shine in Our Show ($150), a collaborative theatrical production written and produced by kids in kindergarten to fifth grade. Our Show meets Tuesday evenings from 5:30 to 7 p.m., and gives kids interested in the theater an opportunity to write a script, create sets and costumes, and perform their original piece for family and friends.

Great piece--but it should be pointed out that this is Roosevelt, not Ravenna.
