My French bulldog and pug were in dire need of cookies --their private stash was nearly depleted. So I made a special trip to Mes Amis, a new pet-supply and accessories shop on top of Queen Anne Hill. It's my new favorite.

Owner Nicole Ryan opened this past February in a newly constructed building designed to look like it's been around for decades -- it blends right in with the turn-of-the-century bungalows and Craftsman homes on the hill. The shop has dark hardwood floors, shabby-chic fixtures and vintage porcelain dog decor, giving the place an old-time, mom-and-pop vibe.

Ryan stocks her shop with some of the cutest toys, tastiest-looking treats and best doggie accoutrements around. For example, the removable (and washable) travel bowl comes in a pink or blue travel case ($24). Animal-shaped rope toys have thin necks and tails, perfect for fitting in a small dog's choppers. Collars come in all colors and styles -- you'll have a hard time choosing. The stuffed toys are so soft and adorable, you might mistake them for baby toys, but if you want something for baby, get one of the fuzzy hoodies from Bunnies by the Bay ($52) and a complementary outfit for Fido.

The dog beds are stylish and well made; choose from a variety of hip colors and patterns ($110-$165). (Note to self: Dump the black fleece bed my husband bought, which is covered with white hair from our relentlessly shedding pug.) For good dogs, pick up a faux burger and chicken-flavored fries made with all-natural ingredients. There's even a special collection of birthday-party paraphernalia, from glittery party hats to soft-toy cupcakes and doggie cake mix ($7.50), which you can pour into a bone-shaped pan ($15).

If you're looking for a gift for your dog-loving friend, consider one of the framed silhouettes of specific breeds by Schnitzel & Boo. Just pick the paper pattern, background color and size. They'll personalize it with your pet's name ($25-$30). Mais oui, your furball will surely be your friend after a visit to Mes Amis!
