Whether you plan to wear lingerie on Valentine's Day or plan to buy it for someone else, look to local lingerie line Sandmaiden for a charming alternative to Victoria's Secret.
Sandmaiden designer Amanda Boyd's take on underthings is more playful than promiscuous. The designer's sleepwear, loungewear and lingerie are handmade to order from a variety of designs and colors. "As a fashion designer, sometimes I would get tired of the constantly changing trends of ready-to-wear and wanted to escape into the pajama world," Boyd says.
And that's exactly what she's done, busily filling online orders from her home in Ballard for lace-trimmed chemises ($48), low-rise hipsters ($28) and flouncy panties ($21) in Tencel cotton and lightweight jersey.
Sandmaiden lingerie is available at Etsy, the site of choice among local fashionistas for handmade goods. Make a Sandmaiden purchase of $45 or more between now and Feb. 14, and you'll receive a complimentary lacy thong along with your order.
