In late January 2000, Pacific Northwest magazine profiled
lifelong Georgetown resident Jon Dove, that year's grand-prize winner
of the Arboretum Foundation's Pacific Northwest Garden contest. The
garden of his towering 1905 home was resplendent with lush foliage,
prolific roses and an onion-dome-shaped privet. Now Dove and more than 20 of his neighbors are busily sprucing up their gardens for the 13th annual Georgetown Art and Garden Walk, which takes place Sunday, July 13.

KING 5 meteorologist Rich Marriott is forecasting decreasing showers in the morning, a partly sunny afternoon and a high of 58 for the 2008 Seattle Yacht Club Opening Day of Boating Season. Bikini weather it isn't, but in light of the fact that it was snowing two weeks ago, we'll take it.

Your April routine is well underway, isn't it? You're crumpling your blown NCAA bracket in disgust, rushing to wrap up your taxes and launching another round of excuses about why you're dismissing the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival.

The Penn Cove Mussel Festival always makes me feel as if I'm back in small-town America, celebrating a proud tradition that manages to be authentic rather than cheesy -- even if organizers do refer to their local mussels as "blue fruits of the sea."

So you're new in town.
You might have noticed that Pugetopolis isn't, well, exactly like the rest of the world.
We rarely honk our horns in anger. You'll more often get a perky wave from another driver than a one-finger salute.
We do tend to have two coffee houses at every corner. We dig clams. We wear Gore-Tex to the symphony. And we have mountains, water and forests that don't in the least resemble Indiana.
