In circles where phrases like “resort wear” and “Hampton cottage” are tossed about, Tory Burch is a household name. Away from New York society, the name is less well known but that is quickly changing. As a blossoming designer, socialite (and Lance Armstrong’s newest love) Burch is redefining the summer wardrobe by reintroducing a classic Eastern inspired staple – the tunic – into her stylish set. Universally flattering and the perfect accoutrement to everything from a bathing suit to white jeans to summer’s essential Bermuda shorts, a tunic should be the first item in your suitcase for upcoming vacations.

Some years ago, as a few buds and I bobbed in our boats on Lake Sammamish doing 12-ounce curls and soaking up the sun after skiing, we spied a curious sight.
Not far away was a boat inching along like a paddling duck, pulling a guy who was riding what appeared to be a surfboard.
"What the hey ...?" we asked. "What are those goofs doing?"

It's go time! Time to pry yourself away from that marathon "World of Warcraft" session, mini-"Lost" marathon or dark, cool coffeehouse where you're hammering out your dissertation, and get out to enjoy the kind of weather that actually makes us want to live here. And you don't need to spend a fortune entertaining yourself, either - for summer is when Seattle truly becomes the land of the free (or exceedingly cheap).

WHISTLER, B.C. It was 80 degrees at the base of Whistler Mountain, but the black ankle-to-knee, wrist-to-elbow padding I was wearing wasn't the only reason I was sweating as the rental clerk adjusted the seat on my Giant Warp silver dual-suspension mountain bike.
A face guard and chest armor would be $10 extra. "Better safe than sorry," he warned. I declined.

Into everyone's life, the saying goes, a little rain must fall. Which is all well and good, but it would seem that last October's three-day deluge, when up to 10 inches fell during one 24-hour period near Glacier Peak, is taking it to the extreme. Especially if you're a hiker, for whom the aftereffects of the resultant washouts, debris flows, landslides and more mean that this summer's range of destinations won't be quite the same.
