Gentle Snark
Attention fellow veg-heads:There's a vegetarian restaurant opening in Wallingford this Friday, July 11. It's called Sutra, and it's at 1605 N. 45th. They serve three- to four-course, prix fixe meals of "clean vegetarian dishes ... prepared with locally sourced organic ingredients that will invigorate the body." I'm game if you are.

Seattle is known for its natural beauty, technological savvy and increasingly for its abundance of vegan and vegetarian options, including a vegan doughnut shop, vegan grocery and even a vegan-friendly bar. Many conventional eateries are adding options.

What We Crave
Got the sniffles? A big bowl of homemade soup from Nana's Soup House near University Village may not be your grandmother's supersecret chicken noodle cure-all, but it will certainly warm you up when you're feeling a bit worn down. We love the hearty vegetarian baked-potato soup, thick with cream and chunks of potato, but with none of that pesky broth to get in the way. A few steamy bites of the velvety potage, and colds just seem to melt away -- at least long enough to get through the rest of the day.

What We Crave
Eating alone is tedious. After all, how long can you admire the art on a restaurant's walls, or stare at your own wine glass? But there is one major upside to dining solo: There's no need to share a single crumb of your dessert.

"Our menu is very meat-forward," said our server. Indeed it is. The food menu at Quinn's, a new Capitol Hill "gastropub" (doesn't that word sound like a malady?) run by Restaurant Zoë owners Scott and Heather Staples, is a veritable festival of meat, from house-made sausage to ruby trout to wild boar sloppy joes.

Daily Find
It's pretty easy to be vegetarian in Seattle, but some of us who avoid meat on our plates are total space cadets about what's on our feet. Even dedicated vegetarians can conveniently "forget" that their shoes are made of leather; I'm living proof.

Life Behind Bars
Georgetown has a lot to offer a starving artist: cheap rent, sprawling studio spaces and a healthy creative vibe. But healthy food? Not so much.

Life Behind Bars
Patrons are treated equally well. Skylark never charges a cover for its Thursday through Saturday live music nights. It's rather like stopping by your best friend's garage for free jams and eating out of his mother's kitchen-every item on the menu is homemade, including an array of sauces that reverberate on the palate.
