Drive to beautiful Cape Lookout State Park on the Three Capes Loop along the Oregon Shore. |
Scenic Oregon highways
Steer yourself toward stunning views. You can see it all on the scenic drives of Oregon: rich forests, snowcapped peaks, wave-battered bluffs and even a glimpse of the "Old West."US 26 Prineville to Sumpter The sagebrush and Stetson-hatted citizens starkly contrast with Bend's resort-town atmosphere. Coming from the west, you drop down from tall bluffs into the Crooked River Valley and, nearing the city, cruise through hills dotted with juniper. Crater Lake Highway There always seems to be traffic on this winding road between Crater Lake and southern Oregon. This isn't surprising when you consider the scenic appeals of the Rogue River and Cascade Mountains. McKenzie River Highway You will see beautiful views of the blue-green McKenzie River with heavily forested mountains, frothy waterfalls, jet-black lava beds and snowcapped peaks as a backdrop. In addition to a myriad of recreational opportunities, hot springs, quality accommodations, fine dining and a dearth of crowds give you the southern Cascades at its finest. Umpqua Highway One of the great escapes into the Cascade Mountains is via the Umpqua Highway. The North Umpqua is a premier fishing river full of trout and salmon, as well as a source of excitement for white-water rafters. Numerous waterfalls, including Watson Falls, feed this great waterway and are found close to the road. Three Capes Loop The Three Capes Loop, a 35-mile byway off US 101 between Neskowin and Tillamook, is considered by many to be the pre-eminent scenic area on the north coast. The wave-battered bluffs of Cape Kiwanda, the precipitous overlooks along the Cape Lookout Highway and the bizarre octopus tree at Cape Meares are the perfect antidotes to the strip towns along US 101. |
