Enjoy a Pioneer Square getaway

May 29, 2008

STEVE RINGMAN / STEVE RINGMAN

Pioneer Square, with its restaurants and galleries in historic brick buildings, is a good destination for strolling.

Get away without going away. Here are real prices* for a special night for two on the town — with a sleepover.

Your room: Pioneer Square Hotel. Circa 1914 — now part of the Best Western chain, with 75 renovated rooms furnished in Victorian style. Art galleries out the door; historic Pioneer Square close by; stadiums an easy walk. $169 for mid-June Saturday.

Dinner: Stroll a few blocks to F.X. McRory's. Steak and fish in the linen-table dining room (or burgers in the sports bar). Prawn cocktail, grilled salmon and top sirloin steak: $58.85.

Breakfast: The hotel offers a free continental breakfast. Or indulge in a Bacon Egg Bolo at the Grand Central Baking Co., $5.75 each.

Before checkout: Cruise the bookshelves at Elliott Bay Book Co.; window-shop along First Avenue.

The damage: $239.35 plus taxes, tip (and whatever you drink).

*Prices may vary by date of stay and date booked. These are current prices found on the Web, by phone or in a recent visit.
